Military Detains Archbishop

Mandalay Archbishop Marco Win Tin, Central Burma, his vicar general, their staff, and about twenty diocesan priests are presently under house arrest and incommunicado at the Cathedral.

Friday afternoon, about 40 government soldiers forcibly occupied the archbishop's compound prior to a Lenten service. The faithful were eventually allowed to leave.

No one is answering the phones, a source told CatholicNewsAgency.com (April 9). Win Tin has strongly opposed the February 2021 military coup which is angering the US and its satellites.
