Francis Pardons Another Sexual Abuser, Friend of Tucho Fernández
Don Principi was found guilty of sexual abuse of minors by two ecclesiastical tribunals (June 2023 and April 2024). The ecclesiastical tribunal ordered his removal from the clerical state.
Puntal.com.ar reported on 21 September that Bishop Adolfo Uriona of Río Cuarto was awaiting the pro forma approval of the sentence by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, headed by homosexual activist Tucho Fernández.
But: The Vatican softened the sentence with a 23 September decree signed by the Secretary of State's representative, Archbishop Edgar Peña Parra, himself accused of homosexual activity and financial misconduct.
Monsignor Peña Parra writes that "further evidence" was presented in July 2024, leading to an "extraordinary trial". The new decision modifies the punishment of the guilty priest.
Don Principi will be allowed to continue his priestly ministry. He will only be forbidden [for the time being] to preside at the Eucharist in public, to have contact with minors and to work in the Charismatic Renewal.
Caminante-Wanderer.blogspot.com provides further context. The case was on the desk of Tucho Fernández, from the same diocese as Don Principi. The two were seminary classmates and are friends. Principi was even the assistant at Fernández's episcopal consecration.
Francis, who claims to have a 'zero tolerance' policy towards clerical sex abusers, repeated these empty words just last weekend during his visit to Belgium.
