Two Kinds of Catholics May Benefit from This Book

Arouca Press has recently published an important new book about the present lamentable pontificate: Defending the Faith against Present Heresies.

Its subtitle sums up its contents: Letters and Statements Addressed to Pope Francis, the Cardinals, and the Bishops, with a Collection of Related Articles and Interviews.

There are two kinds of Catholics capable of benefitting from this book: those who are aware that there is a crisis in the Church, which in the present pontificate is turning from crisis to agony, and those who are unaware of this.

Those who are unaware will be educated, while those who are aware will be encouraged by the quality, both intellectual and spiritual, of the thirty-five or so essays which it contains. This volume also contains the chief attempts by ‘conservative-minded’ Catholics to defend Pope Francis against the charge of spreading and professing heresies.

The weakness of these attempts is also instructive. The editors of the book, who have also contributed some of the principal essays, are both fine scholars of theology and Church history.
