For the sake of discussion, let’s say that the priest, bishop or cardinal who was attacked was a known abuser. Let’s say there were credible allegations against him from multiple sources going back a number of years and let’s say that those sources were verified in the cleric’s personal file.

So, in this hypothetical case, we have a known abuser (possibly homosexual - possibly not). Would this then make the victim of the beating a less sympathetic person? Would this make the perpetrator of the beating a ‘more’ sympathetic person? Does the mental state/motive mitigate the seriousness of a crime?

We recently saw an ecclesiastical judge of the Roman Rota Pietro Amenta, found guilty and convicted of possession of child pornography.
Saint Peter denounces that because of the false shepherds the way of God will be blasphemed. And the prophecy of La Salette announces the apostasy of the BAD priests along with the persecution of good priests.
