Cardinal Ambongo: Only "For Africa"? Only "Confusion"?
Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo, 64, of Kinshasa - the president of the African Bishops' Conferences - has criticised the "timing" (sic) of Francis' homosexual propaganda piece "Sodoma Supplicans".
The "timing" was damaging to the synod process, he argued on 25 January at a meeting with European bishops in Nairobi, Kenya (CruxNow.com). Francis' scribble came between the two synods and allegedly gave the misleading impression that it was the result of synodal discussions.
The first session of the synod discussed all these issues but did not decide, the Cardinal clarified. He argues that many nevertheless saw the synod's first session as at least an indirect endorsement of homosexual sin, which he says is against both African culture and the basic tenets of the Catholic faith.
Cardinal Ambongo insisted that he and his African confreres do not consider Sodoma supplicans appropriate "for Africa" because it would cause "confusion".
