Packed Chapel: A Cardinal Visits Roman Rite Faithful

Cardinal Juan Omella, 77, of Barcelona, Spain, not known for being a Catholic, paid a visit to the faithful of the Roman Mass in Barcelona last Sunday. The priest in charge called the faithful to a meeting at 12 noon. The chapel was full, including many young people.

GerminansGerminabit.blogspot.com writes that the Cardinal was friendly and accessible.

Omella admitted that he was not sure whether he would be able to celebrate the Roman Mass. He also didn't know that last Sunday was Septuagesima.

He expressed his "affection and pastoral encouragement" and his wish that the diversity of rites, alluding to the Mozarabic and Ambrosian rites, would have its full place in the Church.

In any case, he has never placed obstacles in the way of the three churches in Barcelona where the Roman rite is celebrated.
