Fernández Admits: Free-Style Sacraments Are Sometimes Invalid
On 3 February Tucho Fernández published a 12-page text entitled "Gestis verbisque" on the validity of the sacraments in the Novus Ordo.
It affirms that the words and elements established in the essential rite of each sacrament cannot be changed, because such changes render the sacrament invalid. The text doesn't contain specifics about individual sacraments.
According to Tucho Fernández, the text is being published because "liturgical celebrations, especially those of the sacraments, are not always carried out in full fidelity to the rites prescribed by the Church".
"On several occasions, this Dicastery has intervened to resolve doubts about the validity of sacraments celebrated according to the Roman Rite [= Novus Ordo] in disregard of liturgical norms, sometimes having to conclude with a painful negative response, noting in these cases that the faithful have been deprived of what is due to them," Fernández wrote.
Unlike the homosexual propaganda text Fiducia supplicans, this document was presented, discussed and approved by the cardinals and bishops who are members of the dicastery.
Unlike Fiducia supplicans, this document will remain a paper tiger. All abuses will continue as before.
