Slovakia: Francis Badly Embarrasses Nuncio, Bishop

Priest should not “give 40-50 minute homilies on arguments no one understands,” Francis said in a 30 minutes September 13 talk to religious during his Slovakia visit.

After receiving applause for this he replied that “nuns who are the victims of our homilies” deserve the acclamation. As usual, instead of confessing his own sins, he attacked the Church which must “escape from self-absorption, for the centre of the Church is not the Church.”

Several times, Traditionis-Custodes Francis attacked his own shadow: “rigidity” and a spiritual life that is “rigid and self-enclosed.” He warned of a Church that “thinks alike and blindly obeys” - an indication that Traditionis Custodes must not be taken seriously.

Finally, he mentioned a letter he recently received from a bishop who wrote that “we lived 400 years under the Turks, and 50 years under Communism, and we suffered, but these 7 years with this Nuncio have been worse than the other two experiences.”

Francis continued: “Sometimes I ask myself; how many people can say the same thing about their [pope,] bishop, or parish priest?" Francis' description fits the Bulgarian Nuncio Anselmo Pecorari who was appointed in April 2014. The mentioned letter was therefore likely sent by Sofia Bishop Gheorghi Ivanov Jovčev, 71.

"make them grow up free from a rigid religiosity."...because that's how freedom works, by making people believe what you decide for them.

Prior to stating as reported above, Francis said to the priests and Bishops of Slovakia, today:

“Beloved, do not be afraid to form people to a mature and free relationship with God. This relationship is important. Perhaps this will give us the impression of not being able to control everything, of losing strength and authority; but the Church of Christ does not want to dominate consciences and occupy spaces, she wants to be a "fountain" of hope in people's lives. It is a risk. It is a challenge. I say this especially to Pastors: you exercise your ministry in a country in which many things have changed rapidly and many democratic processes have been set in motion, but freedom is still fragile. Above all, it is fragile in the hearts and minds of people.
That is why I encourage you to make them grow up free from a rigid religiosity. Get out of that, and let them grow up free! May no one feel crushed. May each one discover the freedom of the Gospel, gradually entering into a relationship with God, with the confidence of one who knows that, before Him, he can bring his own story and wounds without fear, and without pretense, without worrying about defending his own image. Being able to say, "I am a sinner," but saying it sincerely, not beating our chests and then continuing to believe we are righteous. Freedom. May the proclamation of the Gospel be liberating, never oppressive. And may the Church be a sign of freedom and welcome!”

He therefore that shall break one of these least commandments, and shall so teach men, shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven. But he that shall do and teach, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (Mt 5:17)

Does anyone ever actually understand what he’s talking about. Why is it always irritating to listen to him ?
