SSPX Priests Were Moved to Tears
In a recent interview, Father Davide Pagliarani, the superior general of the Society of Saint Pius X, said about the transferral of Archbishop Lefebvre’s body to the crypt of the seminary church in Ecône, Switzerland, that it was poignant to see the coffin of the founder of the SSPX after thirty years and priests carrying it on their shoulders, as was done on the day of his funeral. Quote, “I saw several senior confreres moved to tears.”
The Strength of the SSPX
The SSPX is confronted worldwide with a great diversity of situations. However, Pagliarani stressed that its unity is based on principles common to all its members and faithful, without distinction. Quote, “It is this unity which is our strength.”
SSPX Is Growing
The SSPX has presently no plans to to expand, Pagliarani explains, but to establish deeper roots where it already is. However, during the coronavirus curfew, many Catholics were drawn to SSPX chapels because they remained open. Pagliarani notices that the bishops missed a golden opportunity to preach conversion and penance during this crisis.
Vatican Wants No Dialogue
Pagliarani revealed that the Vatican has preferred not to resume the dialogue which the SSPX has proposed. This is unsurprising, although Francis writes in Fratelli tutti, that we are “all brothers” and uses the word “dialogue” 49 times. For Pagliarani, Fratelli tutti develops around the illusion of a society built without Christ and His Church. Quote, “As we read this encyclical, we have the impression that philanthropy is the key to interpreting the Gospels, not the Gospel providing us with the light to enlighten people.”
Fixing Vatican II
Pagliarani believes that the quote “atypical and bizarre” Vatican II cannot simply be forgotten because it was a major event in history, just like the First World War. The Church rather needs to correct it and to resolve the question of its authority. He stresses that any effort to interpret “error” as “misunderstood truth” must fail.
