Francis Throws Another of his Protégés into the Dustbin
Francis has dropped Bishop Nunzio Galantino, the former president of the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See, like a hot potato, writes MessaInLatino.it (26 March).
- In December 2013, the little Monsignor Nunzio Galantino, Bishop of Cassano all'Jonio was appointed Secretary General of the Italian Bishops' Conference.
- He won Francis' sympathy with his shameful words about the "expressionless faces" of Right to life advocate who "recite the rosary in front of clinics".
- As secretary general, Galantino quickly overshadowed the then president, Cardinal Bagnasco, by being the representative of Bergoglio's ideology.
- Bergoglio didn't like Bagnasco because he wasn't heretical enough.
- In June 2018, Francis made Galantino president of the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See, a key function in the Roman Curia.
- But something went wrong: Galantino never became a cardinal, not even an archbishop.
- Less than two months after Galantino turned 75, Francis sent him into retirement, a treatment Francis reserves for those he considers his "enemies".
- Galantino wanted the layman Fabio Gasperini to succeed him, but Francis displeased Galantino by appointing the Salesian Father Giordano Piccinotti.
- Unlike Galantino, Francis made Piccinotti an archbishop within three months.
- Now they say in the Vatican that if there is an "expressionless face", it is Galantino's.
