The College of Cardinals Is as Devalued as The Argentine Peso

Caminante-Wanderer (July 10) discusses the Francis’ Cardinals. Highlights.

• Francis has moulded the College of Cardinals in his image and likeness. This means mediocrity, poorly trained, obscure, and shady characters.

• He did the same with the Argentine and Italian episcopates.

• Francis repels capable people, such as Pell and Ángel Vallejo Balda because they refuse to create the opacities Francis demanded of them.

• Francis prefers mediocrities (Tucho Fernández, Parolin) and easily blackmailable characters (Peña, Zanchetta, Ricca, Pedacchio) because they owe him everything which creates a bond of fidelity that is hard to break.

• Francis’ College of Cardinals is as devalued as the Argentine peso.

I think the next Pope will be Sarah, even though he is 77. If elected, I also think he will have a surprisingly long pontificate. If Benedict XVI had not turned coward and quit ( I read he quit because Doctors had said to avoid long travel.....since when is multiple travels necessary for Pope? JPII did practically nothing but travel, and unfortunately it accomplished little if anything). If elected …More

If Benedict XVI had not turned coward and quit ( I read he quit because Doctors had said to avoid long travel.....since when is multiple travels necessary for Pope? JPII did practically nothing but travel, and unfortunately it accomplished little if anything). If elected, I think Sarah would once and for all allow a complete and equal return to the Tridentine LAtin Mass, free for any priest to say it, in any parish, monastery, and even in St.Peters. I would not be surprised that if elected, he said the Tridentine Latin Mass himself, not in the Basilica, but in the Piazza di San Pietro, where as many as possible could participate in it.
Not all of Francis cardinals are bad, or in his image. I think we are in for a big surprise. I believe the new Pope will be an anti-Francis Cardinal (perhaps Sarah), totally opposite to Francis. When he steps out onto the loggia of St.Peters in lace surplice, red ermine mozzetta and papal stole, we will applaude and be thankful that we have a CATHOLIC pope again. That in itself, would be totally the opposite of Francis. And all his associates would be very quickly sacked by the new Pope.

Regardless of what he says, I don't think Francis is especially well, and would not be surprised if he DOES resign sooner than most think, or sooner than he would have hoped. I bet he does take up residence in a suite in the Lateran.

I humbly offer a new motto for this pontificate: Ex mediocritatem venit mediocritatem - From mediocrity comes mediocrity. Of course, computer programmers are more succinct - GIGO

I am going to have to respectfully disagree.
Yes, Francis has appointed shady and mediocre people, but he has failed to even make them a veto block. Thankfully.
He has appointed many bishops and archbishops from Africa and Asia, who have no known ties to the Jesuits or Sankt Gallen, who were already appointed as bishops or archbishops before Francis, who even favour criminalising homosexual practices …More

He has appointed many bishops and archbishops from Africa and Asia, who have no known ties to the Jesuits or Sankt Gallen, who were already appointed as bishops or archbishops before Francis, who even favour criminalising homosexual practices and so on. His desire for missionary cardinals and his distrust for many of his own cronies will likely help Sarah, Ranjith or Erdo.

Erdo, Sarah,Eijk, and of course Burke would be excellent Popes. Pell also. Muller as well as Demerew Sourphiel,Ferrer,Sako,Arborelius. Marengo is too young, he could be Pope for 40 years! I was surprised that despite his youth, and the fact that I saw a picture of him in layclothes, he is NOT considered a liberal by many. Very surprising.
