Traditionis Custodes Effect: Dominican Joins PiusX

Father Wojciech Gołaski, 57, a Polish Dominican for 35 and priest for 28 years, has joined the Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX). 16 years ago, he learned to celebrate the Dominican Rite and understood that “this is what Holy Mass is.”

In an open letter (Rorate-caeli.blogspot.com, November 10), Gołaski confesses that the Original Rite "is the opposite of a stereotype: instead of formalism, free expression of the soul before God; instead of frigidity, the fervour of divine cult; instead of distance, closeness; instead of strangeness, intimacy; instead of rigidity, security.”

Gołaski felt "relief" in his liturgical discovery but then came Francis' Traditionis custodes which claimed out of the blue that the rite of all ages suddenly "ceased" to be the lex orandi of the Church while, in reality, "the traditional liturgy expresses the lex orandi of the Roman Rite by every gesture and every sentence.”

Francis’ TC “will fail,” Gołaski knows. Despite holding the papal authority in high esteem, he was unable to reconcile two mutually exclusive facts: one opening the liturgical treasure, and the other claiming that this treasure had "expired.”

Accepting this contradiction would have destroyed his intellectual life, and, as a consequence, his spiritual life, Gołaski writes.

He wrote, "Most Holy Father, I was born 57 years ago and joined the Dominican Order 35 years ago. I took my perpetual vows 29 years ago and have been a priest now for 28 years. I had only vague recollections from my early childhood of the Holy Mass in its form predating the reforms of 1970."

...because the only way to respond to intolerant bishops abusing the power granted to them by the pope is to join a group of schismatics. Yeah, no.

These men need to be conditionally ordained in the traditional Rite of Ordination given the doubtfulness of the new rite. I hope the SSPX does this because they have not been doing it from what I have been told.

They have, I remember hear about it... but it is on a case by case.

God bless him. May many more priests ponder what it means, to be forbidden to celebrate Mass, or at least to evangelize, as their forefathers did. How can this not irk one’s conscience? How can anyone who promotes the spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola, or Francis de Sales, or hosts of others not be struck by the cognitive dissonance? 50 plus years ago, most of people could be forgiven for …More
God bless him. 50 plus years ago, most of people could be forgiven for going along with the “Reform.” There is no excuse for anyone who has “seen the light” in the years since to go along with this completely uncharitable injustice.
