George Marlin from the “The Catholic Thing” has commented on David Nasaw’s new book, The Patriarch: The Remarkable Life and Turbulent Times of Joseph P. Kennedy. Nasaw shows how the Kennedy family’s founding father treated the Church like one of his subsidiary companies to enhance his public image and political power. To grease the way for his son’s political career, J.P.K. gave millions to Catholic causes and institutions. Publicly, the Kennedys patronized the Church, but privately they helped create a shadow church with their own version of Catholicism. The Catholic pro-abortion movement, for instance, was hatched at the Kennedy compound in Hyannis Port. In summer 1964, Robert and Edward Kennedy met at the Cape with some leading dissident priests – Robert Drinan, Richard McCormick, Joseph Fuchs, and Charles Curran – to figure out how Catholic politicians could pander to the growing abortion movement without upsetting their Catholic constituencies. Marlin concludes: The Kennedy’s shadow church has damaged Catholic standing in the public square and has given cover to the likes of Mario and Andrew Cuomo, Joe Biden, John Kerry, Dick Durbin, and Nancy Pelosi.

Saint Louis University invited the pro-abortion journalist Touré Neblett to give a speech yesterday. Neblett spoke on "How Racism Functions Today and Ways to Deal with it to Get Success." This January, Neblett, described on the MSNBC program The Cycle, how he and his girlfriend had an abortion, saying that this "choice saved my life." He further went on to thank God for abortion. Prior to the US presidential election, Neblett tweeted: "Girls, get your abortions NOW in case the Republicans win." University President Lawrence Biondi, S.J. said recently: "Without question, one of Saint Louis University's greatest strengths is our diversity. Here at SLU, people of diverse beliefs, diverse backgrounds and diverse faiths come together to learn, to live and to lead."

Fr. Ray Blake commented on his blog on the new same-sex marriage bill in the UK. He asks for instance, what title should be given to the overtly lesbian lover of a future Queen. Gloria.TV has some proposals: Queen-es or Queer-een, Her Rainbow Majesty or Queen of the Queen. Father Blake wants nothing to do -quote - ”with this thing now touted as Marriage”. He concludes: It is contrary to God, to Natural Law and to my conscience, I want a divorce!
