Cardinal Cobo Addresses Homosexual Meeting: "Open Dors", "Dialogue", "Inclusion"

Cardinal José Cobo of Madrid, Spain, has sent a warm message to participants in the homosexual Assembly of the ‘Global Network of Rainbow Catholics’. The event is being held in the Spanish capital from August 22 to 26, with fewer than hundred people.

The group's joint presidents reportedly stated: "LGTBI rights are human rights and any Christian should understand, and defend, that."

The letter (below) from Cardinal Cobo is filled with ambiguous buzzwords and omits any mentioning of the Church’s doctrine on sin: "We also ask the Lord to grant us wisdom and prudence to foster a Church where we listen to one another, with open doors, welcoming and fraternal, capable of walking with respect, compassion, and delicacy. It has never been easy to achieve the quality and warmth of Jesus’ welcomes."

And, "Christian communities are also called to walk together with the desire to avoid all forms of unjust discrimination and processes that dehumanize us. In addition to welcoming, we must promote a culture of dialogue, accompaniment, and effective inclusion, which always fosters communion within the Church."

On this occasion, Cardinal José Cobo strongly voiced support for LGBTQI+ Christians. In a letter to the ecumenical vigil at the Hermitage of the Virgen del Puerto, he affirmed the Church’s commitment to becoming more “welcoming and fraternal,” grounded in respect and compassion. Reported by Revista Rainbow, his message acknowledged both the progress made and the long road ahead, stressing the need for new pastoral approaches that “open new doors and new ways of accompanying.” This was warmly received, echoing the “enriching” meeting he held with Madrid’s Crismhom Association on 22 July.
