The Dicastery for Fighting against the Faith has given an allegedly favourable opinion on the devotion to Our Lady of Montichiari in northern Italy. On this subject, Tucho Fernández sent a letter, also signed by Francis, to Monsignor Pierantonio Tremolada, 67, Bishop of Brescia.
VaticanNews.va euphemistically calls the letter a "recognition" (8 July). Montichari is known for alleged Marian apparitions (1947-1976) to Pierina Gilli who claimed that the Virgin Mary appeared to her with three roses, white, red and gold. Gilli designed a statue which became somewhat famous.
In 1950 the local bishop rejected Gilli's claims. Until 1997, the bishops of Brescia repeated that the apparitions weren't credible.
In April 2001, on the tenth anniversary of Gilli's death, Bishop Giulio Sanguineti appointed a priest to oversee the liturgical life of Montichiari. On 17 December 2019, the Marian shrine was declared a "diocesan sanctuary".

Either it's genuine and fully approved or not. The faithful can't be expected to nit-pick around alleged apparitions and see what parts can be believed and what can't.

@Liam Ronan Partially, I suspect, because of continually disobedient apparition fanatics, who always said they wouldn't disbelieve in this or that apparition until Rome condemned it, whatever the local Ordinary declared. To them, I would have said 'be careful what you wish for', because they just got what they wished for - although not in the way they expected.

I agree with you; our shepherds need to step up and be men. These men who claim to be our shepherds need to confront the truth, the consequences and to correct the course by steering the ship in the right direction. Instead playing nice while letting the predators pick out their sheep to devour them.

We all know that the whole world would have been destroyed long ago if the Mother of God had not restrained God’s Wrath with Her prayers. Tucho can keep his apostate thoughts to himself, for they interest no one, but offend Catholic ears.

The Litany of Loreto invokes Mary as 'Mystical Rose' as she has long long been invoked.
The disturbing innuation of the Cardinal's remarks (to my mind) flow from: "He thinks of Gilli’s portrayal of Our Lady as a mediator who restrains divine justice and punishment." That goes right to Fatima and the angel with the flaming sword restrained by Our Lady from striking the earth with Divine Justice, etc.
