Pope Wishes A Rapid Conclusion

Vatican

Yesterday Pope Benedict XVI met in Castel Gandilfo with the Israeli President Simon Peres. Among the subjects of discussion was the possibility of a "rapid conclusion" to Holy See-Israel Joint Working Commission negotiations. The joint talks have been working to establish the legal and economic status of the Catholic Church, its properties and representatives in the Holy Land since 1993. At the conclusion of the audience, President Peres gave the Holy Father a one-foot tall silver Menorah on which is inscribed: "To his holiness Pope Benedict XVI, the Shepherd who seeks to lead us to the fields of blessings and the fields of peace."

Abbot Austin is also a patristics scholar. He has written on the importance of fasting during Lent.

Anti-Christian Politician Runs for Office in Japan

Japan

A critic of Christianity has announced he will run against Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan in the September 14 election for the leadership of the Democratic Party of Japan. “I think that Christian civilization is extremely exclusive, that it’s a self-righteous religion,” said last November. “Mr. Ozawa is neither a believer nor a scholar of Christianity,” responded Archbishop Peter Takeo Okada of Tokyo. “I think his understanding of Christianity is pretty indicative of that of your average Japanese person’s. It means our practice of our faith isn’t as good as it should be.”

London ist the Geopolitical Epicenter of the Culture of Death

UK

English liberals and gay-rights activists have voiced outrage at a statement by. Adamus is an official of the archdiocese of Westminster. He said in an interview that London is “the geopolitical epicenter of the culture of death.” In an interview with the Zenith news agency, Adamus noted an “aggressive anti-Catholic bias” in some circles, and charged that the country’s political leaders “for over 50s years or more have been the most permissively anti-life and progressively anti-family and marriage.” A spokesman for Archbishop Vincent Nichols of Westminster said that the published comments by his staff member “did not reflect the archbishop’s opinions.” The spokesman did not indicate specific areas of disagreement between the archbishop and Adamus.

Every year Gloria makes a pilgrimage to Patmos, where for two weeks Don Reto teaches the Apocalypse and we visit very, very interesting and holy places. So far this was in German. If we would have a sufficient number of people willing to do it in English or any other language, this would also be possible.

Adamus feels that Catholics should “exhibit counter-cultural signals against the selfish, hedonistic wasteland that is the objectification of women for sexual gratification.”
“Britain, in particular, with its ever-increasing commercialization of sex, not to mention its permissive laws advancing the ‘gay’ agenda, is such a wasteland,” he said.

In response, to Adamus' remarks, a spokesperson for the archbishop of England and Wales said that the pastor’s remarks “did not reflect the archbishop’s opinions.”

What the archbishop's opinions exactly are with respect to the advancement of the gay agenda and women’s rights (read: ordination) remains the subject of specualtion.
