I’m 2 days early! It’s October 2! They were on my mind. Today is the great St Jerome. Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ.
A Blessed Good Friday
These are approximations based on biblical clues, Jewish and Roman timekeeping, and historical context. Times are approximate and reflect the “sixth hour” as roughly noon and the “ninth hour” as 3 p.m. in Jewish reckoning (Mark 15:25, 33). Below is a summary of Jesus’ movements with estimated times:
1. Early Morning (Midnight–3 a.m.): Jesus is arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane after praying, following the Last Supper, betrayed by Judas Iscariot (Matthew 26:36-56).
2. Trial Before Jewish Authorities (3 a.m.–6 a.m.): Jesus is taken to the high priest Caiaphas and the Sanhedrin, accused of blasphemy during a nighttime trial (Matthew 26:57-68).
3. Trial Before Pilate (6 a.m.–8 a.m.): Jesus is brought to Pontius Pilate, who questions Him and, under pressure, sentences Him to crucifixion (Matthew 27:11-26).
4. Scourging and Mocking (8 a.m.–9 a.m.): Jesus is flogged, mocked, and crowned with thorns by Roman soldiers (Matthew 27:27-31).
