What this dogmatic uncertainty-ist, dressed in a Catholic costume, has proclaimed is totally in accord with the derogatory comments made by Pope Francis against certainties. From Francis I learned that I am, for instance, a "Pelagian" (and how one is to connect that term with cognitive problems is something only a Pope wearing a clown's red nose could understand). Such prelates of weak faith are forcing me to be a sort of Protestant in a two-fold manner. 1. I protest!!! And I protest in the name of truth. 2. But I am no Luther and am not interested in generating the"true" Church as was the way of the wayward Augustinian of the 16th Century. But, effectively, I see the outlines of a counter "groupings" of lay, priests and prelates whose orthodoxy is slowly coagulating into a countermovement that, given too much provocation, could lead to neworganizational forms, those of the type of a schism (as Douthat of the NYT worried about). There have been times when popes and counter popes have excommunicated each other. In the modernist crisis of NOW we may see not rival claimants to the Papacy, rather rival clamants to the Orthodoxy, viz., the truth of Catholicism.
