Another Trad Dad Thanksgiving!

Times have indeed changed; but some things remain the same. Take for an obvious example, the ancient and venerable Mass of the Holy Catholic Church.
For this trad dad, one thing that never changes is my love of Thanksgiving. I blame my own dad. He was a sucker for this holiday, and all the many traditions that he pasted on me seem to be unshakable (some to my dear wife’s eyerolling delight). There’s the playing of Christmas music beginning as early in the morning as possible while stuffing birds. There’s the brandy Manhattans taken a bit earlier than what is normally socially acceptable. There’s the annual watching of
Then there are the usual traditions. Turkey, family, etc.
And of course there is Mass itself. How could we as a family not celebrate this or any other day without offering to God the Sacrifice of praise, begging His mercy and humbly adoring Him at the foot of Calvary?

I Promise I’m Not Trying to be an Alarmist, but…

Friends, regardless of what may or may not be happening in the world today, I cannot recommend frequent confession strongly enough. To that I would add, it is never a bad idea to make daily Mass part of your routine. Are you in the habit of praying daily? It’s never too late to start.
The people “in charge” seem hellbent on dragging us all into a nuclear war. I pray that isn’t really going to happen. But it reminds me to be prepared for anything and then not to spend all my time worrying. If you haven’t seen it, check it out this video of what a nuclear war would actually look like. Surprisingly, it would be over before any of us really has a chance to duck and cover.

Staying Confessed (and Stocked Up)?

Last I be accused of dissembling , the two positions are not mutually exclusive.

Side note, this morning I stood on my front porch after returning from Mass. FYI the Carmelites Sisters seemed extra joyful from behind the screen as they prayed by name for President Trump, America, and the Church. They have been doing this for years now.
I stood on my porch and I sipped my black coffee from my Trump coffee mug.
I stood on my porch as the garbage men came by in their yellow high-viz vests to collect my trash. These guys come around twice a week around the same time. They are hard-working and they actually seem to enjoy their labor. We always smile and wave at each other. I greatly appreciate the work they do. I’ve gotten to know some of them. This morning, the two men who jumped off the back of the truck – both Mexican – pointed to my house, gave big thumbs up, And, seeing the flag, gleefully, shouted at me, “Go Trump!”

The Day Is Upon Us

It is the eve of “the most important day in our nations history”.
Wherever you may be, I urge you to pray.
I am spending this time overnight kneeling before Our Lord. My parish is having Adoration.
I am in His presence now.
I gaze upon Him in love and trembling.
Lord Jesus, bless our land.
Lord Jesus, touch the hearts of sinners.
Lord Jesus, spare us in Thy mercy!
Lord Jesus, for the sake of the tears of Thy Holy Mother, hear us!
I don’t know what else to say.
Perhaps I will simply gaze upon Him more with love and trembling.

Politics, Souls, and First Saturday

November 2 is the the first Saturday of the month. Please avail yourself of the Blessed Mother’s request to make reparations for the outrages committed against her by partaking in this beautiful devotion.
November 2 is also All Souls Day. Go to Mass (or three), visit a cemetery, and pray for the dead. You will be among them one day. Remember that. There is a plenary indulgence granted to the souls in purgatory for those visit cemeteries and such. Look it up.

On Carmel’s Height, I Join Their Fight

Dear friends, I have written in the past about the plight of the holy nuns of the Carmel of the Most Holy Trinity in Arlington, TX. I have followed their story for over a year now as the bishop of that diocese (Fort Worth, TX) has, well, let me see how I can say things with as much charity as I can muster… These dear women, who have given up their lives in the world to pray day and night for you and for me, have been besmirched, maligned, accused of terrible things, and dragged through legal processes both civil and canonical.
You are, of course, free to draw your own conclusions about who is at fault.
But I have lived quite the interesting life. I am a 46 year-old man, a husband and father, who spent much of his adult life working for the Church both teaching the faith and administering schools on Her behalf. In November 2002, yours truly was working in the newsroom at station WNYW in New York. That’s the Fox Television owned and operated station in the #1 market in the country. We’re not talking small potatoes here. While at my desk one evening I noticed the flashing bar on my screen. It was an AP news flash. It was – ready for it – the election returns for an election that had not yet taken place.
I noticed this because my father was one of the candidates for Congress from a district in NJ in the viewing area. In his retirement he routinely rounded up signatures to get on the ballot as the only pro-life candidate. These results were replete with numbers and percentages and projected winners.

Daily Reminders to Stay Confessed

I write this fully aware of my own need to confess often and to not only eradicate sin but also to grow in virtue. No small order, these things. But do them we must. President Trump, America, and the Church: Aspirations for the Future

There is a certain woman seeking the highest office in the land who has been tossing her word salad lately, droning on about the “aspirations” of the American people.
I submit to you that she does not know the origin of the word
When I think of aspirations I think of the short prayers that can be said in one breath.

Today happens to be the feast of St. Teresa of Avila, reformer of the Carmelite order. The older I get, the more I realize that the Carmelite nuns of the world are literally holding us all up by their prayers.
I have mentioned a group of Carmelites local to me. Who for four years have been praying after every mass for Donald Trump. I and many others believe that these prayers have saved his life on several occasions, and we believe these prayers will be effective in converting him to the Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. I submit to you know the actual prayer these holy women pray every day straight from their monastery.

Are You Prepared?

“To Thee, O Lord, we commend the soul of Thy handmaid, that being dead to this world she may live to Thee: and whatever sins she has committed in this life through human frailty, do Thou in Thy most merciful goodness forgive. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.”
The friend for whom I asked prayers a few days ago has gone to her judgment.
We will all go to our judgment.
Stay confessed.
Love God.
Love thy neighbor.
Strive to grow each day in virtue and holiness.
On a personal note, she was a dear, dear woman and a true friend to all. She will be missed in this life. I know that she had completed first Fridays and first Saturdays many times in her life on earth. She was devoted to the Blessed Mother. She died on Our Lady’s weekly feast day. God grant her eternal rest with Thy saints forevermore!

IVF, TMI(?), Humility, and Offering It Up

She first came to my attention a few years ago as a guest on the Barnhardt Podcast. This was back in the coof days when the ladies were dropping nuggets of knowledge on us left and right. From these two I learned about Ivermectin, a drug that has literally saved the lives of people in my family. In fact, I just took a dose of the 1% injectible livestock form this morning to knock out a cold. I felt like a million bucks within a couple of hours. I can’t see anything in my periphery but there wasn’t much worth seeing today anyway on this overcast Texas afternoon. No, to Nurse Claire I say thank you. St. Raymond Nonnatus

In case your Latin is rusty, this Raymond’s moniker translates to “unborn” or “not born”. This is believed to be due to his birth by Caesarian section. Yep, in the twelfth century.
If it is true, as there is no reason to believe it isn’t, that Raymond was, to quote Shakespeare, “from his mother’s womb untimely ripped”, then St. Raymond should never have been born at all. think about it. God must have wanted this guy born. Think about it. To attempt an abdominal incision and live birth in the 1100’s was unheard of and yet somehow Raymond reached maturity.
Side note, on the eve of St. Raymond’s feast the Church commemorates a St. known only as Adauctus. That is, the saint who was added on. This guy was an unknown Christian who, inspired by the martyrdom of St. Felix, jumped in to die with him. We don’t know his name at all.

I’m referring to the new evidence that the Image on the Shroud is not so much static but a micro-snapshot of the momentS of the Resurrection.
