The AstraZeneca vaccine is an old school vaccine which introduces a small viral particle called a spike protein, which the immune system recognises and launches a response. And remembers for next time if the actual virus enters the body. Meanwhile the Pfizer Modena vaccine is a small piece of messenger RNA which has the code to make the spike protein that gets inserted into the host cell, which then makes the protein. (This cuts out the phase where a bacterial plasmid inserted gene, manufacture the protein in vitro). The latter technique is new. But information flow in a cell is uni directional from DNA to RNA. Therefore there’s no element of gene therapy here.
