Woman Or Competence? Cologne Cardinal Makes "Revolutionary" Appointment

The embattled Cologne Cardinal Rainer Woelki has hired Carmen Breuckmann-Giertz, 46, as the new Head of the Direction of Studies in the Formation of Priests and Deacons, starting June 1.

It is unclear what the exact task of Breuckmann-Giertz will be. Woelki - who has been the victim of media persecution for months and is now trying everything to save his skin – spoke of a “unique” contribution. Women - [not competence] - in leadership have been his “great concern for a long time.”

Carmen is married to Cologne Deacon Thorsten Giertz. They have one son. The husband works for the vicar general and is responsible for the assignment of priests. Carmen worked effectively in the hospice movement focussing on the palliation of terminally ill patients. She also fought against euthanasia.

On de.gloria.tv the users have expressed three concerns about her. First, that the fate of the priests in Cologne will now be decided in the Giertz family home as both of them are working in the same area. Second, her presentation by the "Meppener Tagespost" in a mini-skirt, she has, however, reached the canonical age. Third, her answer to the question what beliefs about death she has thrown overboard, “The old doctrine of the separation of body and soul” (Trauer-Teilen.blog, September 25, 2020).

One wonders what alternative she has found to this common sense teaching.

The notion that at death the body and soul don't separate comes from Karl Rahner. A priest once tried to tell me that the soul stays in the body after death. I asked him what happens if the body is destroyed by cremation, deterioration in a grave, or eaten by animals (not to exclude those in the ocean). He said that is an exception. He was wrong. In fact, it is otherwise in the history of the world …More

I asked him what happens if the body is destroyed by cremation, deterioration in a grave, or eaten by animals (not to exclude those in the ocean). He said that is an exception. He was wrong. In fact, it is otherwise in the history of the world: After death bodies have been exposed to the elements and deteriorate--there is no body left where the soul can abide.

Rahner was proof that a man can be intelligent and a total fool at the same time.

Y'all need to hang out with the FSSP. Hobbies of the three padres I've known... amateur boxing. ice-hockey, duck-hunting.

I'm sorry, no matter how competent that woman in the mini-skirt, she is inappropriate for teaching young men in the seminary! They need male role models, and they don't need temptation of the flesh at such important times in their training!
I'm very sorry if Cardinal Woelki hoped this might provide some credibility with the people in positions of power who are making his life difficult rigfht now.
