Cardinal: The Church Was “Absurd” And “Inhumane” Until Francis
Last Sunday Cardinal Philippe Barbarin of Lyon, France, hosted an event for adulterers in his Cathedral. According to La Croix Barbarin constructed in his homily the bizarre case of a divorcee living in adultery who "cannot put up any longer with not receiving Communion" and because of this "internal suffering" decides to stop attending Mass, "then it would be absurd and inhumane to continue to withhold it from them.”
Barbarin left it to the subjective feeling of the adulterer whether Communion should be received or not because “for some people, the path of faith necessarily includes taking communion, while for others, it is enough to participate in Mass without communion.”
