US Church Loses 90 Percent of Baptised Catholics

Two scholars, Michael Rota (University of St. Thomas) and Stephen Bullivant (St Mary's University), analysed the decline in religious practice among Catholics born in the US over 50 years of General Social Survey data.

Their study, titled 'Religious Transmission', was published on ChurchLifeJournal.nd.edu on 12 August.

The data show that retention is falling: 84% of those raised Catholic still identified as Catholic in 1973, compared to 74% in 2002 and 62% in 2022.

Practice is declining more rapidly: weekly Mass attendance among those raised Catholic dropped from 34% in 1973 to 20% in 2002 and to 11% in 2022.

The authors conclude that the Church is now losing nine out of ten Catholics who were baptised as children. Many of them become religiously unaffiliated.

The proportion of Americans who say religion is among the most important things has fallen from 72% in 2013 to 53% in 2023.

The 'New Springtime' of Vatican II continues in the United States: "More and more of those raised Catholic are leaving"

The new "religion" of VII caused all this and should be abolished. It is not Catholic just another protestant sect.

Maybe making the Catholic religion a protestant one had something to do with this.

Many go to the Born Agains or get snatched up, I might say. Lately, Sean Hannity did so; I think he divorced and wanted more from his religion. Too bad, there are some, though, who are finding the Congregations of the Society of St. Pius V, SSPV, where we are traditional Catholics. I am waiting for Vatican II to be demolished and a true Pope to arise.

The second largest religious denomination is Former Catholics.

Which is, sadly, why I do not become too enthused when I read headlines about Catholic conversions 'on the rise'. The body doesn't ldo well in the long term receiving transfusions of ml when, at the same time, it is hemmorraging litres.

Not to mention that most of those who still identify as Catholic practise birth control or are otherwise living in habitual mortal sin.

This was the plan all along. The fruits of Vatican II

The "writing is on the wall" and yet the synodal leadership is blind!

Mike... do you really think they’re blind? They ARE doing this on purpose my friend... Why do you think, Francis I and II and their minions speak like NGO's heads? They speak about God without mentioning Jesus Name alright, tighten ends with the world's powers... the synagogue of evil.

One giant elephant has taken their place.

When nine out of ten young Catholics leave the Church, you'd think that the hierarchy would take drastic measures, and NOT continue on the same track!
"How about ensuring that when those cradle Catholics are young— when they are still coming to Mass— they see and hear and say and do things that impress upon them the ineffable beauty and transcendent power of the Holy Sacrifice? Do I have to spell it out?"
The exodus of young Catholics

You are assuming the hierarchy care that thousands of Catholics are heading to hell where they'll meet the shepherds who were too busy with the illegals or with social activities forbidden by the commandments to care that their flock was lost.
