Curia Cardinal Gives Example of We-Follow-the-Leader Ideology

“Priests not supporting Francis should ask, ‘What am I doing here’?” Cardinal Marc Ouellet, 77, told the anti-Catholic NcrOnline.org (February 17).

Ouellet is a neoconservative for whom Faith consists in following the current leader whatever he believes. Cynically, he invites young clergy to look at Francis “as an example” [for what?].

When Benedict XVI appointed him Prefect of the Bishops Congregation he was "more attentive to the doctrinal dimension" of the job, Ouellet admits.

But then came Francis and an opportunistic Ouellet quickly learned “the accompaniment dimension" and “that it's not enough to tell people what they have to do" [as if Benedict – in contrast to Francis - had ever done this].

"We have to always teach the truth, but at the same time, to be attentive, to be compassionate and merciful; that's what I've learned with Francis" – he said showing that for him truth and mercy are opposites.

Support and submssion are not the same and the Cardinal should know better. He probably does, but he's making a fool of himself.

There are some in the Vatican who have lived their entire priestly lives by the old saying, "flattery will get you everywhere."
