Italy: Regina Pacis Suppressed – Founder Was Just Declared Venerable

Francis’ Congregation for Religious has suppressed the Regina Pacis Community in Verona.

The group was founded in 1986 as a community of prayer and evangelisation by Alessandro Nottegar, +42, a physician who died of a heart attack a month after founding Regina Pacis, and his wife Luigia Scipionato.

Regina Pacis started with families and later included several dozen consecrated women and men, some of them priests.

Suddenly, after decades, the Vatican now complains about a lack of "originality and reliability of the founding charism", as well as a "scarce consistency of the inspirational texts, especially in the ecclesiological field and in the formation of the association."

Nottegar, a father of three daughters, was declared "Venerable" by Francis in 2017, about the same time when Verona Diocese started investigating Regina Pacis. The Vatican investigation was carried out by Father Amedeo Cencini, a psychotherapist who was instrumental in eliminating Enzo Bianchi from his community.

Seemingly there were infights among the members and shortcomings in government. The community owns real estate in Italy, Medjugorie, and in Brazil.
