Until now, the access to Saint Peter’s was denied to those who showed up in immodest clothing especially in summer. Numerous signs in the square were informing tourists of these rules.
With Cardinal Archpriest Gambetti, the regulations have changed because the focus of the Francis’ “poor” Church is on making money. Consequently, the more people who enter the basilica, the better.
Gambetti therefore purchased thousands of disposable cloths, made of synthetic material, to cover tourists’ bare backs of tourists as the Vatican is worshipping plastic-free religion, SilereNonPossum.it (July 15) writes.
The scarves are provided free of charge, and tourists are asked to make an offering. They are used for a quarter of an hour, at most and generate a huge amount of waste.
