He reported costal fractures and multiple traumas. The reason for the accident is unclear as the horse was perfectly calm during the fall. Like many prelats Caliandro suffers from pronounced obesity which may have influenced his riding skills. The fall was perhaps also influenced by the fact that the volontiers of the disgraced Order of Malta carried the baldachin possibly attracting bad luck.
