Benedictine Brother Murdered

Brother Godwin Eze, one of the three Benedictine monks kidnapped on 17 October by Islamic Fulani herdsmen, at the Eruku monastery, Nigeria, has been murdered.

According to Fides.org (October 25), on 17 October around 1am, the criminals attacked the novitiate dormitory where about ten brothers, including novices and postulants, were sleeping.

They captured the three and made them walk barefoot in the middle of the night. When they reached the bank of a river, they shot Brother Godwin and threw his body into the water.

The other two abductees, the postulants Anthony Eze and Peter Olarewaj were released on 21 October. It is unknown whether a ransom was paid.
