Cardinal for Three Months

Cardinal Richard Baawobr, 63, is dead, 92 days after Francis made him a cardinal.

He was the first African Superior General of the secularised White Fathers (2010-2016) when he was appointed Bishop of Wa (400K Catholics, 90 priests), Ghana.

At 5.45pm on Sunday, he was taken by ambulance from the Generalate of the White Fathers to Policlinico Gemelli, where his community received news of his death at 6.25pm.

Baawobr had travelled to Rome in August to attend the consistory, but fell ill and was unable to attend. He underwent heart surgery the same month and was released from hospital only a few days before his death.

As a bishop, he at least spoke out against homosexualism praising a bill that would have increased the penalty for homosexual acts in Ghana.

Could someone explain to me what secularized means in this context? It keeps cropping up and I don't understand how they can be made Bishops etc if they have left the Priesthood. ????
