- You have to think well to act well.
- To think well is to contemplate the truth.
- The phrase of the great physiologist John Hughlings-Jackson (+1911) gives us the key: "A lower function is regulated by the mere exercise of the higher function".
- When the higher function of the soul (intellect and reason) disappears, the lower function of the soul (the instincts) takes its place.
- With original sin, all the powers and faculties of the soul and the energies of the body rebelled and fell into anarchy.
- These faculties, powers and energies are brought back into their true channel through the exercise of the higher function, reason, and its dominion over them through training (asceticism) and enlightenment by the truth and grace of God.

Bravo, Orthocat, that you were able to discern the truth. At first I thought you were really saying the Imitation of Christ was a bad book.

One called the Imitation of Christ "the worst book ever written." Another said St. Bernard was the end of the pure Patristic Church of the first centuries of Catholicism. Of course us lowly seminarians saw their real target - all that pesky "pre-Vatican 2" piety. The Rosary, Eucharistic adoration, novenas, all had to be swept away for a "return to the sources" for thinking Catholics of today! 🤐

Is the author of this article, stating a complaint against the spiritual work
The Imitation of Christ by Thomas A Kempis? Did he just lump the spiritual classic by Thomas A Kempis in with several protestant and pagan exercises just to throw garbage at garbage. 🤮
I for my part will be much more leary of future articles published by en.newsMore

The problem started also with St Bernhard of Clairveaux ("My Jesus, my friend") going to St Therese of Lisieux. All beautiful saints. It's the spiritualy of the 2. millenium that is somehow deviated.
