Switzerland: Asylum Seeker from Afghanistan Undresses the Black Madonna and Beats Her Up

A young man from Afghanistan damaged the Black Madonna in Einsiedeln on Saturday afternoon during a Eucharist with 200 worshippers.

The perpetrator entered the church, stripped the famous statue of the Black Madonna, beat her and put her crown on his own head (video below).

The highly venerated statue (117 cm high, dating from the 15th century) was slightly damaged.

Priests present prevented more serious damage. The police acted quickly and arrested the perpetrator. He was described in the legacy media as being 17 years old (below the age of criminal responsibility) and mentally disturbed.

Weltwoche.ch points out that the 'confused' Afghan was able to travel to Einsiedeln Abbey, seek specifically the chapel and the venerable statue of Our Lady in order to desecrate it: "You don't do that in passing."
