Cardinal Marc Ouellet, 79, expects "little" from the German bishops' visit to Rome starting March 22, he told Herder.de:
"Apart from the promise to postpone their decision on the 'Synodal Council', the positions do not seem to have changed". This synodal council would be permanent and dominated by lay people.
It will take grace for this dialogue to reach an agreement acceptable to both sides, the Cardinal believes.
The neo-conservative prelate is a former prefect of the Congregation for Bishops.
Before becoming a follower of Francis, he was considered a "Ratzingerite" or "close to John Paul II". If Bugs Bunny had become Pope, Cardinal Ouellet would have followed him too.
