Hypocrisy? Francis Fires Five Vatican Employees on Worker’s Feast-day

On the feast-day of Saint Joseph the Worker, Francis fired five Vatican employees without waiting for the outcome an inquiry.

The five were suspended in October, but later, partially reintegrated.

They were involved in a Vatican investment in a London building. According to IlMessaggero.it (May 1), the five were dismissed without explanation, probably to make it impossible to challenge the decision. They are:

• Vincenzo Mauriello, Secretary of State

• Fabrizio Tirabassi, Secretary of State (never questioned by prosecutors)

• Caterina Sansone (in the meantime hired by another Vatican entity)

• Father Maurizio Carlino (still living in Santa Marta)

• Tommaso Di Ruzza (director AIF)

Later, Monsignor Alberto Perlasca, was also inquired.

Cardinal Parolin and Francis called the London investment “opaque,” although they had endorsed it. IlMessaggero.it writes that the property’s value has tripled since Brexit.

During his May 1 Eucharist, Francis prayed for “for all workers, so that no one is without work.” Pro-Francis IlGiornale.it adds, “Soon after, however, here's the surprise that smells of hypocrisy.”

Pope Francis should fire his PR director for letting "gotcha" moments like this happen. Half a week and it wouldn't even be an issue. It's unacceptably sloppy for someone managing an international celebrity with this kind of visibility..
