On the 21st of February, the Archbishop of Lyon, Cardinal Philippe Barbarin visited the Grand Mosque of Lyon. He prayed there for the release of a seven-member French family who has been kidnapped in Cameroon and are being held hostage. After the head of the Great Mosque, Kamel Kabtane, had recited from the Koran, he called on the mosque to pray for the speedy release of the hostages. The Cardinal appeared moved. The French website Riposte Catholique commented: "Does Allah hear the prayers more than our Lord Jesus Christ?" The appearance of Cardinal Barbarin in the mosque was not the first time for such a spectacle. In 2010 at the end of Mass, Cardinal Barbarin recited passages from the Koran. In 2011 he also recited the Shahada which is the Islamic creed .
