Argentine Archbishop "Forbids" Receiving Communion in the Mouth
The August 27 decree was sent to parish priests, parish vicars, Catholic school administrators, and catechists. It demands for First Communions and Confirmations that all altar servers and "catechumens (of any age) will receive Holy Communion only while standing and in the hand."
This goes against Church law, which grants all the faithful the right to receive Holy Communion in the mouth (e.g. CIC Canon 843 §1 or Redemptionis Sacramentum, Article 92).
Thus, according to the decree, priests are obliged to refuse Holy Communion, thereby disobeying the law of the Church.
The Archdiocese of San Juan de Cuyo has 717,000 Catholics, an Archbishop and two auxiliary bishops yet only 50 parishes and 68 priests.
