“Pandemic” But NO SICK PEOPLE in Lourdes

The absence of pilgrims in the Marian shrine of Lourdes, France, is noticeable in the streets of the town.

Shops and hotels are closed, writes AlfaYOmega.es (August 6). According to Father Mauricio Elias, the Spanish language chaplain in Lourdes, “the sanctuary now lacks the sick" because there are now “ten percent or less of the usual people.”

Hospitals that had scheduled pilgrimages are cancelling, postponing or making them without the sick.

Things have become more complicated since last year because a negative Covid-test is now required to enter France.

At least, Covid has made it possible that Lourdes returned to normal confessionals where the priest and the penitent are properly separated.

My father taught me great love for the Virgin Mary. I can still see him kneel down on the sand of Ourous to pray the Angelus every day. I never forgot those moments when he closed his eyes to give thanks to Mary. I imitated him and recited my prayers. - Cardinal Robert Sarah
