Practicing Catholics Often Attend the Traditional Mass - Cardinal Sarah

Speaking to the Youtube channel of Tribune Chrétienne on October 13, Cardinal Robert Sarah criticised the rekindling of the liturgy wars. Main points of the wideranging interview.

Abortion & Morality

· Abortion is an abominable crime.
· To enshrine abortion in the [French] Constitution as a right is to mock God — a direct insult to God.

God at the Center of Society

· It is suicide to detach ourselves from God, to reject Him, to exclude Him from society.
· Trump’s decision to invite his people to turn toward God is a wise one.

Impossible Women’s Ordination

· There is no female priesthood. The Church has no authority, no power to ordain women. It’s impossible.
· Mary is the holiest of all, but Jesus did not make His Mother a priest.
· Perhaps someone may begin ordaining women — but that is not the priesthood of Christ.
· The Anglicans have no priesthood, since they did not follow apostolic succession. It's an election.

Doctrine & Magisterium

· Doctrine evolves like an embryo: it develops without changing its nature.
· It is only the Magisterium that we must believe — not the opinions of theologians.

Exaggerated Abuse Crisis

· Yes, there are priests who have done abominable things — but we must not lump everyone together.
· Some exaggerate these serious faults.
· The guilty must be punished, but the whole Church must not be condemned for the sins of a few.
· They try to silence the Church — but the Word of God cannot be chained.

Liturgy & Tradition

· We have turned the Mass into a battlefield — traditionalist, progressive, this and that — and we are profaning the Eucharist.
· Why forbid this or that? Who gives us the right to prevent someone from being personally united with God?
· The question of liturgy is a question of faith: lex orandi, lex credendi — as we pray, so we believe.
· In fact, those who truly practice their faith today are often the ones who attend the traditional Mass — why forbid them? On the contrary, they should be encouraged.
· Mass is the only time when man is in face-to-face relationship with God. It is the only time when man is in direct contact with God.

Sexuality & Blessings

· God created man and woman to complement each other.
· Allowing two people of the same sex to marry or be blessed makes no sense — even the pagans never did that.
· There has not been in history a document declaring same-sex marriage possible.
· The worst was when the LGBT flag was brought into St. Peter’s Basilica — that is an insult to God.
· Every person must be respected, but each must also respect God and the doctrine of the Church.

Secularism & Persecution

· The most serious persecution is in the West: your faith and Christian values are being anesthetized.
· Secularism often serves as an ideological cover for a war against the Church.

Ecology & Competing Cults

· Yes, we must respect creation — but we must not turn it into a goddess.
· Bringing an idol [Pachamama] into a basilica is a serious confusion.

With such an analysis why didn’t Cardinal Sarah stand with Castro de Meyer and Lefebvre? Liberalism. I think this way but I don’t act this way.

Novena - Oremus shares this

Cardinal Sarah on the Latin Mass — “when we really look at Christians who practice today, they are the ones who go to traditional Mass. So why forbid them? On the contrary, we should encourage them.”

It only makes sense when you face the truth. They hate Catholics and Catholicism! You are not dealing with faithful shepherds, nor even hirelings. They are wolves.

First Commandment: Sins against the Majesty of God, against God Himself, His Honour, His Worship, His Persons are the worst.
Hence, the order of the X Commandments. The gravest sin is first , etc.
Fifth Commandment: Sins of infanticide cry out to God for vengeance ie. abortion
Sacrilege, according to this sacred hierarchy of order, is the gravest of sin, ie. NOM, desecration of the Sacred Host.goods
The Ten Commandments
I am the Lord thy God. Thou shall not have strange gods before Me.
Thou shall not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
Remember to keep holy the Lord's day.
Honor thy father and mother.
Thou shall not kill.
Thou shall not commit adultery.
Thou shall not steal.
Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
Thou shall not covet thy neighbor's wife.
Thou shall not covet thy neighbor's goods.

@K R Ross...You forgot that Abortion does violate the first commandment
Attempted murder of Jesus Christ
whatever you do to the least of these you do to me Matt 25:40
Abortion aka child sacrifice
You shall not let any of your children be offered through the fire to Molek, and so profane the name of your God: I am the Lord. Leviticus 18:21

K R Ross

Interesting, Chris.
In my limited opinion, both examples that you give are indirect and corollary breaches of the First Commandment, and not direct breaches of the First Commandment.
Did the soldiers killing the Holy Innocents commit intentional Deicide, intent to kill the Messiah, True God and True Man, or simply infanticide, child massacre at instruction of King Herod? No, they committed infanticide at the king’s command to kill a potential rival to the throne.
Is infanticide, per se
child sacrifice, and, therefore, satanic, or false worship of a false God? No, infanticide is first and foremost infanticide, intentional child murder, unborn or live. The satanic intention of those behind promoting and facilitating abortion is indirect. It is rare that the person seeking an abortion has a directly satanic intention. It can and probably does happen, but again it is a very rare occurrence.
Another example: Stealing a Consecrated Host for purposes of desecration: is the sin primarily that of theft, or more importantly and directly is the sin that of Lèse-majesté against God, a sacrilege? It is a sacrilegious theft of the Sacred Species to commit a sacrilegious act, desecration. Which is gravest? The direct desecration then the direct sacrilegious theft which precedes the former. Someone might steal the Host without the sacrilegious intent to desecrate it.

@K R Ross,,,Thanks for your studied reply. I formerly believed as your reply says but I now realize that sin is much more than what I believe. Sin is much deeper than I ever realized.
It is God himself who declares that abortion is an attempted murder of Jesus. It is God himself that declares abortion profanes the name of God. Thanks.

Cardinal Sara mentioned ABORTION first as it should be.

Novena - Oremus

He is asked that first... - order comes from the interviewer.

As always, the great and magnificent Cardinal and Prince of Holy Mother Church is absolutely right.

I don't know what the Pope will do, but he is aware of this battle. He is aware of this difficulty.
[Interviewer:] You had the opportunity to discuss it with him when you met him.
[Cardinal Sarah:] Yes, [I had] the opportunity.
[Interviewer:] Cardinal Burke obtained this traditional Mass [at St. Peter's].
[Cardinal Sarah:] Which will take place, but everyone must be given space. The Pope is the father of everyone, of each one of us. He is the father of the traditionalists. He is the father of the progressives, the father of everyone. He cannot ignore his children. Everyone has their own character, their own sensibilities. Everyone must be taken into account. I think he will try to act in this way.

Rekindling liturgical wars? Didn't Cardinal Sarah hear what Leo had to say yesterday? “...some forms of worship do not foster communion with others and can numb our hearts.” But silly, judgmental me. Maybe Leo was expressing displeasure with Mariachi Masses, Polka Masses, rock music Masses.

Context
The lepers in the Gospel who do not return to give thanks remind us that God’s grace can touch us and find no response. It can heal us, yet we can still fail to accept it. Let us take care therefore not to go up to the temple in such a way that does not lead us to follow Jesus. Some forms of worship do not foster communion with others and can numb our hearts. In these cases, we fail to encounter the people God has placed in our lives. We fail to contribute, as Mary did, to changing the world, and to share in the joy of the Magnificat. Let us take care to avoid any exploitation of the faith that could lead to labelling those who are different — often the poor — as enemies, “lepers” to be avoided and rejected.

Humanity is at a crossroads of learning how to love. For 2,000 years, we have had the teachings of Christ, and look where we are, arguing over who is better, best, or right. He hung on the cross for our sins. Well, maybe we need to recognize what the sins were that he died for. Persecuting the innocent. I came out of the church the other day, and some fellow said he was sick of the Muslims. I stopped, jarred and surprised. I asked, How many Muslim nations have you visited? He said None, I asked How many Muslims do know know personally?, he said, None Judge not... or at the very least know who you are judging first..... and then forgive yourself.
