Cardinal Hollerich Pushes for "Wider" Understanding of Sexual Morality
"Some look back on the past with rose-tinted glasses, others with dismay. Both are wrong. We are part of history. We have to accept that and learn from it. We have to move on."
Cardinal Hollerich spoke at length about the ex-synod and described his "work" as "very intense".
At the synod's preparation, the idea of a tent emerged that "needs to be enlarged so that everyone can fit inside". This idea was not well received in Africa, where "the image of the family" was favoured instead.
Cardinal Hollerich revealed that Pope Francis had insisted that laypeople participate in the synod alongside bishops: "That was a controversial decision; some bishops did not like it."
Regarding the new pope, Cardinal Hollerich sees "continuity in content" and discontinuity only in form between Leo XIV and Francis.
