The parish priest of Gmünd (pop. 5,000), Austria, Radoslaw P., 38, was arrested at the end of July and confessed to attempting to manufacture crystal meth.
Crystal methamphetamine is a powerful and highly addictive stimulant that is smoked, snorted, swallowed or injected and produces intense feelings of euphoria, increased energy and alertness, with serious side effects including paranoia, aggression and long-term damage to the brain and body.
P. comes from Poland, was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Warsaw in 2014 and has been working in Gmünd, Diocese of St. Pölten, since 2021. He has been a drug addict for two years, suffers from depression and has accumulated debts.
On 13 July, he started producing crystal meth (black market value: €32,500 per kilo) and filmed his production experiments (16 hours of footage).
