Bishop Tobin, "I regret"

Statement of Bishop Tobin (June 2):

I regret that my comments yesterday about Pride Month have turned out to be so controversial in our community, and offensive to some, especially the gay community. That certainly was not my intention, but I understand why a good number of individuals have taken offense. I also acknowledge and appreciate the widespread support I have received on this matter.

The Catholic Church has respect and love for members of the gay community, as do I. Individuals with same-sex attraction are beloved children of God and our brothers and sisters.

As a Catholic Bishop, however, my obligation before God is to lead the faithful entrusted to my care and to teach the faith, clearly and compassionately, even on very difficult and sensitive issues. That is what I have always tried to do - on a variety of issues - and I will continue doing so as contemporary issues arise.

As the gay community gathers for a rally this evening, I hope that the event will be a safe, positive and productive experience for all. As they gather I will be praying for a rebirth of mutual understanding and respect in our very diverse community.

I regret there are few to none real Catholic bishops....Many will much to suffer for losing their sheep.

Somebody got to Bishop Tobin and that’s why he backtracked.
Homosexuals have succeeded in lawyering their way to "marriage", demanded their way in adopting children and getting homosexuality taught in many schools including Catholic.

Well then how about teaching the faith dear bishop? We get that constant refrain of gays being beloved children of God and our brothers and sisters. But it shouldn't stop there. The Catholic world is constantly fed these sweet words. It’s old news, Bishop Tobin.

The Bishop also writes:

my obligation before God is to lead the faithful entrusted to my care and to teach the faith, clearly and compassionately, even on very difficult and sensitive issues.

Well then, why not include a little (not too much so as not to offend the gays) teaching about the sinfulness of gay activity? Why not invite them to your parish for “learning sessions” where you can explain in detail how their activity is harmful to themselves and to others. You seemed to have forgotten about teaching the faith in your apology?

Catholics have not forgotten what the hierarchy has done, Bishop, that it was the cover-up that is and was the big problem. We’ve heard enough of this beloved children of God and our brothers and sisters business. The Catholic Church has rightfully acquired the reputation of enabling homosexuals within the Church. How about getting rid of the homosexual enablers in the Catholic Church, Bishop Tobin? With your sickening apology, you are participating in the cover-up by attempting this bit of misdirection. Is there any wonder why more people are saying they have ‘no religious preference’ these days?

LGBTQ is a panoply of unethical, immoral, and dangerous voluntary sex behaviors that must be condemned, not celebrated. There is nothing “gay” about 47 being the median age at death for white men having sex with men (MSM) in the U.S., and 43 for black MSM. There is no “love” in glory hole anonymous sex encounters in bathrooms and bathhouses, and no “pride” in indiscriminately spreading HIV and AIDS to others. At the end of the “rainbow” is not a pot of gold, but depravity, pain, and death.

You were correct the 1st time, Bishop.

A reminder that Catholics should not support or attend LGBTQ “Pride Month” events held in June. They promote a culture and encourage activities that are contrary to Catholic faith and morals. They are especially harmful for children.

The bishop has given an appropriate response, don't you think?

Tobin hoped the Pride event would be "safe, positive, and productive experience."
