New Priestly Seminary for the Roman Rite in Tanzania, Supported by Bishop Schneider

From July 15-21, a group of American Catholics climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to raise funds for a new priestly seminary in Tanzania.

The climbers were led by Christopher Wendt of the Confraternity of Our Lady of Fatima and Michael Matt from RemnantNewspaper.com. In the morning, Father João Silveira from Portugal celebrated the Roman Mass.

The climb was part of a fundraising campaign for the St. Benedict House of Studies in Tanzania. The idea for this new seminary was born in August 2023. Bishop Athanasius Schneider supports the seminary.

It will be part of already existing charitable works run by Father Antonius Maria Mamsery, Superior-General of the Missionaries of the Holy Cross, a community of the Roman rite.

Father Mamsery is already the head of a school for 250 boys, another school for 170 girls, a hospital for the poor and, in the future, a house for those considering the priesthood and for seminarians.
