“The world is at war," Francis told Lorena Bianchetti, an Italian state journalist, during a Good Friday interview.
Francis mentioned [the covered-up wars in] Syria and Yemen, and the Rohingya. Much of the interview turned around Ukraine. Francis said that the word “pain” was coming to his mind, adding that for moral pain there is "only prayer and tears.”
He stressed that the devil is “not a myth but a reality” calling him “a seducer” who "always seeks to destroy us" because wer are made in the image of God. Francis said that he recites the St. Michael's Prayer every morning, “That it might help me conquer the devil.”
When Bianchetti noted that it was almost three o'clock asking Francis how we should live this hour of Christ’s death, the question remained suspended. Francis remained silent for a few seconds.

I was instantly reminded of stories I was told about the Church right after the council forcing or pressuring nuns to go out into the world, with such ferocity that it sounded like it was motivated by hatred for the contemplative life.
