On July 7 Pope Francis appointed Father Derio Olivero, 56, as the bishop of Pinerolo, Italy. Olivero is a liberal secularist who prefers to hide his priesthood behind casual clothing. On September 29, for a prayer vigil in the cathedral of his home diocese of Fossano, the not yet consecrated bishop knelt down in front of the people in order to make them bless his head.
