Spanish Bishops "Canonise" Islamic Leader

The Spanish bishops’ conference wrote a condolence for the death of Riay Tatary Bakry, 72, signed by Almeria Bishop Gonzáles Montes and Valladolid Bishop Argüello García.

Tatary was a Syrian Sunni who became an Imam in Madrid and died as president of the Islamic Commission of Spain, the legal representative of all Muslims and Islamic organisations in Spain.

The bishops ask “the Most High, Compassionate and Merciful God” – a typically Islamic wording – to “welcome him in Paradise, reward him, and give him peace.”
