Set in the late Roman Republic, Gracchus presents the struggles of Gaius Gracchus, a Roman tribune, 100 years before the coming of Christ.
The material was made into an opera by David Hughes (composer) and New York Latin Mass Father Richard Munkelt (libretto). The work took five years.
The opera will be shown at a single performance at the Palace Theatre in Stamford, Connecticut, on Saturday, August 19 at 4:00p.m. Buy tickets here.
David Hughes told Gloria.tv at the Roman Forum in Gardone, Italy, that his opera is about the betrayal of friendship, family strife, infidelity, reconciliation, the spilling of blood, family and civic order, personal life, and hope of restoration.
