The myth that the resolution of the "Cuban Missile Crisis" in October 1962 was due to the mediation of John XXIII - strongly supported by secular and Catholic media including the Vatican - is fake news, reports Sandro Magister (October 18).
President Kennedy announced on 22 October that the Soviet Union had installed missiles in Cuba.
Two days later, John XXIII made an appeal for peace - supposedly "successful" - to both the American and Soviet ambassadors in Italy.
However, "A Thousand Days. John F. Kennedy in the White House" - the most detailed American account of this crisis by Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr, Kennedy's assistant for international policy - does not mention John XXIII.
The USA, which had already tried to invade Cuba in 1961, organised a blockade against the country and the Soviet Union sent ships to help Cuba.
The first sign of de-escalation came on 26 October when the Soviet Union sent the US a letter saying that it would stop its military supplies if the US accepted not …More

IMO is all fake, to entertain and distract from what is important: To save your soul and the ones around you.

The Jupiter missiles in Turkey were obsolete and JFK had already ordered their removal. JFK gave up nothing. NK gave up a new system that was being installed. JFK traded a bag of garbage going out the back door for a bag of groceries coming in the front. A 'win' in my book.

Why did JFK turn down the early proposal of Khrushchev, which included taking the Jupiters from Turkey?
Putting the Jupiters in Turkey produced good relations between the US and Turkey. The Turks thought their removal broke the agreement that had benefit to both sides. They did not like their removal.

BTW, that missile system was caught between the Army and Air Force. The Air Force didn't want it, and the Army only wanted it if it was a mobile system.

John XXIII was to preoccupied with his precious Vatican II to bother about Cuba. He might have given afew words, but nothing more.

Regarding Vatican II, John XXIII and Paul VI were both imbeciles, to allow the bishops and Cardinals, especially the radical ones, to express their opinions openly and push their agenda.
I read that neither were present during the debates. John XXIII watched it in his office on closed circuit TV, as did Paul VI.
They should have been there, in the Basilica, to llisten to, and then to stop, the progressives. But they abdicated their duty and chose to watch everything on TV.

Why would they need to be there when their progressive friends where doing their progress and "bringing down walls".
John XXIII intervened when the conservatives won a vote, to change the result in favor of the progressives, who started crying to the pope when things weren't going their way.
One the progressives was Montini who later became Paul VI. They knew very well what they were doing.

One the progressives was Montini who later became Paul VI. They knew very well what they were doing.

Montini invited protestants, orthodox and other confessions to give their opinions of how the church should be.
He placed the orthodox in the same level facing the catholic cardinals.
