Cardinal Meisner Was Convinced That He Is Saved

Meisner was convinced, that God would be glad to see him "coming home” and would say to him, "What a joy, that you are now here." Asked whether he would be ready to suffer martyrdom, Meisner replied, “I've had a permanent martyrdom here” and that he felt “at home” in the Stations of the Cross.
Meisner saw himself “well prepared” for death since he believed having done what is “humanly reasonable”. Before his death he handed to his secretary the things needed for his entombment “so that there will be no searching".
In February 2013 Meisner belonged to the first group of German bishops who introduced the abortive morning-after pill in the Catholic hospitals of his archdiocese. He never retracted this decision.
