Thousands of citizens protest currently against a nine-meter sculpture called “Syncretism” that combines images of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Aztec goddess of death “Coatlicue” in Guadalajara, Mexico. The sculpture was installed by the city government that paid an equivalent of 290.000 US-Dollars.
Guadalajara Cardinal Francisco Robles Ortega defended the sculpture in the local media, “The most simple people, the most humble people with a religious devotion to the most Holy Virgin, who are accustomed to see her one, classic image, well, they seem to be upset, confused, by this interpretation that seeks to be artistic.”
Robles told journalists that he will not request the removal of the sculpture.

“The most simple people, the most humble people with a religious devotion...," In the eyes of Cardinal Francisco Robles Ortega, "los estupidos." Or as Pope Francis might call them, "self-absorbed promethean neopelagianists." Obama, "bitter clingers, who cling to their guns or religion." Vladimir Lenin, "the useful idiots."
