Buenos Aires Auxiliary Bishop José María Baliña, 64, whom Francis appointed bishop of the diocese of Mar del Plata, will not take up the post. Francis accepted his resignation on 13 December.
Baliña was only appointed on 21 November and was due to be installed on 20 January.
He explained his decision with a detached retina, saying that he would offer his "priestly service in the archdiocese where I am".
It was Francis who made Baliña a bishop in 2015. Caminante-Wanderer calls him one of Francis's worst appointments: mediocre and anti-Catholic.
Francis quickly found a replacement for Baliña as archbishop of Mar del Plata. He appointed auxiliary bishop Gustavo Manuel Larrazabal, 62, of San Juan de Cuyo.

In a letter to Catholics in Mar del Plata, Baliña says that he’s been struggling for months with a detached retina. He’s had two operations and has another scheduled for February.

I asked my uncle who is a cardiologist in Los Angeles. I texted him a quick question on my lunch hr. He said there has to be more to the resignation to a detatched retina, which although not a minor issue, should not affect his performance as Bishop, and certainly not his overall health...unless he has something like diabetes , etc. which is a serious contributor to retinopathy. I didn't understand alot of what my uncle texted, so I omit it.....but he said it should not affect his overall general health, so there has to be something else behind it. He didn't want to speculate. But I will 🤪. I bet it has something to do with faithful Catholics who dug up his past, or something like that.

Hope the new choice is somewhat better. There's more to this than eye problems for him to resign. Maybe there's behind the scenes documentation of a sodomistic sexual nature that forced him to resign before he ever got into office.
