“The Passion of the Christ” actor Christo Jivkov, who played St. John, died from lung cancer on Fri., March 31 at age 48. His death also coincides with the traditional feast of the Seven Sorrows of Mary (the Friday before Palm Sunday). Mel Gibson mourned his death in a statement: “My dear friend Christo has lost his heroic battle with cancer. Right to the last moment, he was filled with hope and his spirit was strong,” Gibson said.
